This week the blog prompt for The Gallery is “eyes” and I’m sure there will be some amazing artistic photographs but the first thing I thought about for the theme was the role that eyes have in showing emotion.
So here is my Angry eyes picture

My Sad eyes picture
and my Happy eyes picture
When teaching children about emotions it is important to recognise the role that eyes play in reading people’s feelings - it isn’t all about what their mouth is doing so whilst happy and sad face symbols with two dots for eyes and the curved mouth are clear to read they don’t really help children ‘read’ the non-verbal language.
We like the Mr Face Create-a-Face wall hanging for teaching emotions because it is a resource that looks at not only the mouth shape but also the role of the eyes and eyebrows in the display of an emotion.
There are six different sets of eyes, four eyebrow options and four mouth shapes (not to mention a choice of noses!) and you can create all sorts of different faces and emotions – sleepy, scared, happy, evil and angry.
If you’ve got a Mr Face chart send us a photo of your favourite face and we’ll feature it on our blog!
Do check out the other posts in this week’s The Gallery and don’t forget to add your comments.

photos are too cute
Your son must be a great actor
great game to I haven’t seen this before x
Thanks – he does have the biggest most expressive eyes of all my boys and I can see him on stage…
So funny! I was ‘talking’ to my 4 year old about this at bathtime tonight. I say ‘talking’ in actual fact he climbed out of the bath and stood in front of the mirror so I asked him what the matter was, his reply was ‘I just need to look at my face mummy’. So of course I start looking at his face wondering what the matter is, has he got a scratch or something that is bothering him? I couldn’t see anything so I asked him what he was looking at, he replied ‘look mummy when I do this with my face I look sad’ (at which point he pulled a very exaggerated unhappy face) he continued “and when I do this with my face I look happy”. “Yes” I replied “and what do you think your face would do if you were surprised?” …. needless to say my husband walked in around this point to find me and our 4yr old pulling silly faces at each other in the mirror as my 2yr old sat watching us with a bemused look on his face in the bath lol!
Lots of fun, good to hear it was educational as well! I love the Mr Face idea! x
LOL – glad you had fun
hee hee very expressive eyes – made me smile and reminds me of my eldest and the ‘faces’ he will pull when asked x
